This community was essentially unmoderated for a while and I've been recently approached to take over moderation duties here. What I don't intend to do is to change any existing rules here but to enforce what has piled up in the moderation queue.

Note that accounts on both networks must follow the main bridge account to work.

I recently made an mbin account bc I like the idea of one account that does both threads and microblogs (only want microblog for a couple mastodon people, don't want to need multiple accounts). So far I'm finding the setup of mbin in general a little confusing, and I can't join their matrix for some reason.

These are starting to really stack up with the nutty mods in some of these places and I'd like to keep score and perhaps display them somewhere. I'm wondering if there's a list?

I would imagine the most expensive part is the storage space perhaps Peertube instances can function as cooperatives for content creators where they pool their resources to kickstart their own independent video platform free from censorship and frivolous corporate takedowns.

Has there been a major spike in user registrations or any other metric? I've never seen something "go viral" like this on lemmy before.

Hopefully not too niche being a Japanese service, but has anyone been able to register for Misskey? They aren't allowing registration from outside Japan (the VPN I tried didn't work). From what I can tell, they started restricting registration a year ago, has it been closed the whole time?

I hate big tech controlling social media. I desperately want social media to be federated.

Trying to pitch the Fediverse on its technology backend to non-technical people is a bad approach, but so is trying to pitch it in terms of digital detox or "better" culture.

I have seen many comments saying that lemmy.world sucks, and sh.itjust.works is good. I have seen that lemmy.world apparently has a very poor reputation among other instances. Why? After a quick look, sh.itjust.works doesn't look much different to me. Can anyone explain?

Edit: After reading your comments, and testing some more, I must say that I've misunderstood how it all works. I should've thought of Mastodon users like separate Lemmy communities...but not exactly. What confused me is the fact that you could look up a profile on a remote instance and see their posts, but they would be very delayed. On Lemmy, if your instance hasn't "discovered" a community, you wouldn't see it at all.

No matter which sort you use (except for new), content is recommended to you by activity. Depending on the sort (active, hot, top) it uses a slightly different mixture of votes/comments/time since post to determine the order.

A little procedure I follow to help noobs get seen by others. I used to do what most people do and boost their # introduction posts, but I think most people want to see more natural engagement and sort of glaze their eyes over when they see the intro tag, so here's what I do:

I wanted to ask something about handling spam, but magazine sized, since I noticed things like https://kbin.melroy.org/m/gaming and https://kbin.melroy.org/m/berita12 that are closed and only seem to host spam links. Do you report all the posts, just hail the admins? Sorry if it's not the right place, couldn't find MbinSupport or something similar.

The vegan community is growing on the lemmyverse now at 110 registered users that makes a MAU of 69 (0.15%) of the 44.9k Lemmy userbase.

Hi, I’m not self hosting, but I’ve realised I’ve spent a decent amount of time on this social media, and written a few things I may want to revisit in the future.

I’ve not been banned myself, I’m just curious.

I was just reading this post https://old.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1gmv76n/is_reddit_going_to_remain_the_primary_space_for/ and many barely see the fediverse as an alternative and they seem to have a negative bias towards it. Super ironic when it comes to the self-hosting community. Yes, some instances are problematic, yes, some devs might have had problematic views. But it doesn't really matter when it's federated and FOSS. I think it's clear-cut that the selfhosting community on Lemmy is a perfect alternative to reddit. Why is there such a negative bias?

How do you like it? How do you find people to follow when running your own "instance"? How does it interact with lemmy? It is an intriguing option i think, i am interested in this.

I have been looking for instances of peertube, but some of them do not have registration enabled or only support a specific type of videos (For example, technology), I want an instance where you can register and that is not limited by a specific theme for the videos.

Thinking about this lately, especially in the context of the UD elections getting discussed a lot all over Lemmy.

As currently they’re only using YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

I'm still learning the quirks of federation and the behaviors of communities hosted on different instances, so I apologize if this is something that's been asked repeatedly.

The fediverse has been good to me so far, I am more than happy to support these projects, and to support the future of social networking.
